Position Purpose

As an Employment Relations Specialist, you will be a key consultant for our clients, providing expert guidance and support in managing employment relations matters, including workplace investigations, disputes, and compliance with employment laws. You will work closely with clients to understand their needs, develop tailored solutions, and provide comprehensive advice to enhance their employment relations practices. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on solving complex challenges, is detail-oriented, and can deliver effective employment relations strategies that drive client success, enhance employee engagement, and ensure legal compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide timely best practice employee relations advice on misconduct, performance management and other complex employment and industrial relations matters.
  • Consult with clients to understand their employment relations challenges and provide tailored advice and solutions including the development and implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Conduct workplace investigations and manage disputes, ensuring fair and compliant processes.
  • Offer expert interpretation and guidance on employment regulations, legislation, and awards.
  • Stay updated with the latest trends and changes in employment law and share insights with clients to enhance their employment relations strategies and their ability to deliver best practice.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, ensuring high levels of satisfaction and client retention.
  • Develop and deliver training sessions and workshops on employment relations topics and provide expertise in developing and delivering tools, education, and upskilling for internal capability and/or client work.
  • Participate in industrial tribunals and prepare responses for Fair Work Commission matters.

Key Selection Criteria

Essential:
  • Relevant qualifications in HR, Law, or a related field, with at least 5 years of experience in employment relations or a similar role.
  • In-depth knowledge and proven experience in managing workplace investigations and disputes.
  • Strong understanding of the Fair Work Act, National Employment Standards, the Modern Award System and employment laws including those related to equity, diversity, inclusion, respect, and psychosocial safety.
  • Excellent consulting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate client needs into effective employment relations solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple client projects simultaneously, with strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Commitment to delivering exceptional customer service with excellent interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to educate, train and support clients on employment relations best practices.
  • Ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively within a team environment.
Desirable:
  • Experience with enterprise bargaining and agreement negotiations.
  • Continuous professional development in employment law, industrial relations, or related areas.
  • Experience working with unions and union negotiations.
  • Membership of the Australian Human Resource Institute (AHRI).
  • Legal Practicing Certificate (LPC) or eligibility to practice law in Queensland.
  • Mediation or conflict resolution certification.
